Disney for Dads!

Welcome to Disney for Dads.

You found our spot on this Disney site. A place to sit, relax, and have a drink - and a place to discuss exactly what there could possibly be at Disney for us (besides embarrassing our kids by merely existing).

My kids say that I missed my true calling in life and I should have been a Pirate of the Caribbean. I can't disagree, just 200 years too late. The cannons don't thunder, there's nothing to plunder, I'm an over forty victim of fate. (Sorry, I digress.) I enjoy boating and fishing in the Bahamas, and I've traveled much of the Caribbean. What I haven't seen there yet, I will see sometime.

"Disney is not for Dads. Really."
(Overheard in Epcot, November 2004)

"There is a tide in the affairs of men, which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune; Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows, and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat; And we must take the current when it serves, or lose our ventures."
(Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, Act IV, Scene 3: Within the tent of Brutus)

Any Pirate Captain will tell you that it is much easier to sail with the tide rather than against it. And the same is true for any visit to Disney for a Dad.

What I have learned over the years is that, even though you are going with the flow, you can steer the ship to port or starboard at the same time. No one is anymore the wiser, but your visit is suddenly much more enjoyable.

So for me (and now you), Sailing With The Tide doesn't mean mindlessly going with the flow. It means that you're stealthily guiding your crew of Princesses and Pirates behind the scenes at the same time. And no one said you had to leave your manhood at home. And I'm not the only dad to think so. Just check out

Why Sail With the Tide?

There's a sign outside of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Adventurland that says, "Sail With The Tide". It rings so true. So it was natural for me to choose that as my Dad-logo. It's my motto on the site. It will become yours as well.

Be sure to read my Disney for Dads Alert! comments and my memories from Back in the Day of growing up with Mickey and the crew when you see this sign throughout the site:

Disney for Dads - Dad Talk

DD - Don't forget to grab a Mickey head ice cream bar and head for Club Cool located at the Innovations Pavilion at Disney's Epcot for some free soda sampling. Great for a hot day in the Florida sun! - Don, Virginia Beach, VA, USA

Don - The Mickey head ice cream bar is my oldest daughter's favorite. If you go for the free soda sampling, beware of "Beverly"! - Disney Dad

DD - Thanks for the information you emailed. I really didn't believe there was anything for me at Disney - Tim, Augusta, GA, USA

Tim - Oh, there's tons for us Dads to enjoy. It's all about where you look, and steer - Disney Dad.

DD - What you said about using Disney to teach my son some important safety tips at Innoventions is right on. He didn't even know he was "learning" - Joel - Wayne, NE, USA

Joel - I must be a kid, too, because I didn't even know I was learning until it was all over - Disney Dad.
